Greece needs little introduction as a summer holiday destination, but it’s shaping up to be an even more attractive choice for Brits booking a package deal this year.

Not only does it offer idyllic islands, dreamy beaches and historic attractions but it’s removed the headache of summer entry queues by exempting Brits from the EU’s new biometric registration system, the EU Entry/Exit System.

And this VIP treatment needn’t stop at the border. To help you enjoy luxury in Greece for less this summer, we’ve dug into our site data to reveal where you can enjoy a five-star Greece holiday for three-star prices.

These are the cheapest destinations in Greece for a seven-night, five-star holiday this summer.

1. Lefkas

Average price for a five-star, week-long holiday: £691pp

View of Nydri (Nidri) harbour and village on the island of Lefkas (also known as Lefkada) in GreeceView of Nydri (Nidri) harbour and village on the island of Lefkas (also known as Lefkada) in Greece

Lesser-known but no less beautiful than its Ionian Sea neighbours, Kefalonia and Zante, the island of Lefkas poses sensational value for a five-star week away.

When we checked, summer deals to Lefkas on TravelSupermarket averaged under £700pp, and you’ll have breathtaking white-pebble beaches like Porto Katsiki to enjoy - which was recently included on the World’s 50 Best Beaches list.

For a memorable evening meal, head to Lefkas Town to stroll around its peaceful marina and narrow streets. More of an adrenaline seeker? The island is renowned for its windsurfing and kitesurfing in Vassiliki and Nidri.

While Lefkas doesn’t have its own airport, it’s the only Ionian island directly connected to the mainland. To get there, fly to Preveza International Airport, a 30-minute drive away.

2. Rhodes

Average price for a five-star, week-long holiday: £755pp

Dotted with major resorts, like Lindos, Faliraki and Kiotari, brimming with history and featuring several lively nightlife hotspots, Rhodes is a classic Greek destination - but you still won’t pay a premium for luxury here.

Deals for a week-long, five-star stay on this picturesque island average well under £800pp, making it more than just a little tempting this summer.

Whether you fancy a boat trip to explore hidden coves, relaxing on pine-backed golden-sand beaches in Pefkos or a hike up to Lindos Acropolis to enjoy panoramic views across white-washed village of Lindos and the sparkling sea below, Rhodes has plenty to offer.

History buff or not, visiting vibrant Rhodes old town is a must. Stroll along its medieval walls and through its UNESCO-listed streets to find countless shops, cafes and tavernas.

Famed for its postcard perfect beaches, dramatic white cliffs and being home to the highest peak in the Ionian islands, Kefalonia is your Greek island dream come true.

You’ll be surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery and brilliant blue waters teeming with aquatic life. You can even see sea turtles, typically around the port of Argostoli, Paliostafida Bay or Mounda Beach, so be sure to pack your snorkel.

Myrtos Beach - a glorious strip of sand in front of sheer white cliffs - is one of Kefalonia’s crowning jewels. Hire a car and brave the winding road down the mountain to the car park or take a boat from the resorts of Assos or Fiskardo

There are further natural wonders in Melissani Cave and Mount Ainos National Park, while the pastel-coloured harbour town of Fiskardo is an excellent spot to sample fresh seafood.

Sound good? Five-star summer stays come in at an average of £787pp.

The largest of the Greek islands, Crete has a wide variety of attractions and resorts to choose from and there is incredible value to be found.

With five-star, week-long package holidays here costing an average of £849pp, you’ll likely find a location and price that suits your taste.

Chania is a colourful waterfront city and is perhaps Crete’s best place to stay thanks to its charming old town, museums and the wonder of Elafonisi Beach nearby – a famous pink-sand beach. Elounda is another romantic harbour town and a hotspot for swanky resorts.

Platanias and Agia Marina are buzzing with life throughout the summer and popular with families, as is the capital Heraklion. For party lovers, few places compete with the energy of Malia and Hersonissos, where bars and clubs bounce long into the night.

5. Kalamata Area

Average price for a five-star, week-long holiday: £871pp

Aerial view of the beautiful Kalogria beach in Stoupa, GreeceAerial view of the beautiful Kalogria beach in Stoupa, Greece

Situated on the mainland, Kalamata poses a different yet equally charming atmosphere to that of the Greek islands. And there are even more reasons to visit this summer as British Airways launched new flights from Gatwick last month and Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, used this peninsula as a filming location.

Famous for its olives and olive oil, the city and its surrounding area is also characterised by gorgeous views of the Taygetos Mountains.

Averaging £871pp for a week-long stay in a five-star hotel, there are plenty of eye-catching options here. Set along the sweeping Messinian Gulf, the Kalamata Area is peppered with luxury beachfront hotels like the Horizon Blu Boutique Hotel and the Elysian Luxury Hotel & Spa.

And don’t be put off by Kalamata’s mainland location – you’ll still be treated to stunning beaches, including the Blue Flag Kalamata Beach and the pretty, crescent-shaped bay of Voidokilia Beach, around an hour’s drive from Kalamata itself.

The city itself is a worthy day out too, with a bustling old town, 13th-century castle and several fascinating museums like the Archaeological Museum of Messinia and the Kalamata Military Museum.

6. Athens Area

Average price for a five-star, week-long holiday: £933pp

A sunset lights the Parthenon in on top of the Acropolis Hill in AthensA sunset lights the Parthenon in on top of the Acropolis Hill in Athens

Athens may not be the first destination that springs to mind when you imagine a summer holiday in Greece, but the capital city and its surrounding area make for captivating trips - especially when it’s combined with five-star luxury.

We found that you could be looking at well under £1,000pp for a world-class five-star city break, with many of the high-end hotels here offering dazzling rooftop pools that afford breathtaking views across the skyline. The Grand Hyatt Athens and Green Suites Boutique Hotel are two examples.

You’ll have a wealth of ancient history on your doorstep, too, from the iconic Acropolis to the Panathenaic Stadium, the first modern Olympic stadium.

But if you don’t fancy a city centre stay for your summer break, there’s still incredible value - and beauty - to be found in the wider Athens area. The peaceful southern suburbs, like Glyfada and Vouliagmeni, are a gateway to the palm-fringed shores of the mesmerising Athenian Riviera, where you’ll find jaw-dropping luxury hotels like The Margi and stylish beach clubs such as Astir Beach.

7. Kos

Average price for a five-star, week-long holiday: £983pp

Beautiful street view in Kos town with colourful houses and flowersBeautiful street view in Kos town with colourful houses and flowers

Miles of magnificent sandy beaches are just the beginning of Kos’ appeal as a Greek summer getaway. It’s the home of Hippocrates, father of medicine, and you can visit several archaeological sites as well as unique natural attractions such as Paradise Beach where bubbles emerge from the seabed thanks to the remains of a volcano below.

This island in the Dodecanese archipelago has a number of family-friendly resorts, quiet harbour towns and, at the other end of the holiday spectrum, pulsating nightlife hotspots.

Tingaki and Marmari are known for their long, sandy beaches and family atmosphere while Psalidi is home to many of the island’s premium hotels. Kardamena is the humming party destination, but if you’re seeking somewhere more tranquil, the waterfront village of Kefalos is particularly scenic with its steep hillside and medieval castle.

Whatever your taste, you’ll be able to handpick a five-star retreat for an attractive price. Averaging £983pp when we dug into our data, you can absolutely find luxury holidays for less here.

8. Santorini

Average price for a five-star, week-long holiday: £1,101pp

Traditional Greek architecture sat on the coastlineTraditional Greek architecture sat on the coastline

The white-washed, cliffside towns of Santorini are among Greece’s most recognisable - but luxury stays on this hugely popular island aren’t as pricey as you might think.

We found that for an average of just over £1,100pp, you can treat yourself to five-star comfort. There’s no shortage of accommodation with unforgettable views across the Aegean Sea and unwinding in an infinity pool or a private balcony hot tub is simply the best way to enjoy Santorini. Just look at the views from Volcano View by Caldera Collection or Lilium Hotel.

Away from your hotel, a great activity is to take a boat tour to see the island from another angle. Many cruises depart from Ammoudi Bay or Vlychada Marina. Find one that includes stops for swimming in the hot springs at Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni.

Watching the sunset from Oia Castle is almost a rite of passage in Santorini too. You can tie this in with a wander around the town’s fairytale cobblestone pathways and blue-domed churches.

9. Zante

Average price for a five-star, week-long holiday: £1,126pp

While Zante is perhaps best known as one of Europe’s top party destinations, it offers far more than just foam parties and bar crawls.

Firstly, it has natural good looks – white-sand beaches are backdropped by vast cliffs while lush olive groves and lemon trees blanket its interior.

The island is also home to protected loggerhead sea turtles, and you can embark on tours to see nesting and hatching throughout the summer – but do your research to find sustainable and animal-friendly excursions. The spectacular Blue Caves are worth exploring by boat too.

When it comes to beaches, Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach) is probably the most iconic but it can get very busy. Tsilivi Beach or Kalamaki Beach are slightly quieter and still achingly beautiful, while Makris Gialos beach is a haven for snorkellers and divers.

You’ll find five-star resorts across the island, averaging £1,126pp for a week-long break. Tsilivi and Kalamaki are ideal for families, the villages Vasilikos and Limni Keri are great for a quieter vibe and Laganas is the one to aim for (or avoid) depending on your appetite for a party.

10. Mykonos

Average price for a five-star, week-long holiday: £1,165pp

A view of Mykonos port and town in GreeceA view of Mykonos port and town in Greece

Mykonos is synonymous with luxury, so it’s no surprise that it features on a list of the best five-star destinations in Greece. But the fact it sneaks in as one of the cheapest this summer may come as a shock.

With prices averaging £1,165pp when we looked into the data, you shouldn’t rule out a more premium trip to this world-famous island in the Cyclades.

If you’re looking for a romantic break, booming high-end nightlife or both, Mykonos is the place to be. The whitewashed, pedestrianised Mykonos Town (Chora) is known for its ‘Little Venice’ waterfront and 16th-century windmills, making for the perfect spot to sip a sunset cocktail.

For more high-octane evening entertainment, there are huge, glamorous beach clubs on the Panormos and Psarou beaches. Principote Mykonos and AMMOS are two to look out for.

Naturally, Chora is dotted with fantastic five-star hotels - like Semeli Hotel and Belvedere Mykonos - but Agios Ioannis and Platis Gialos are quieter alternatives, with beautiful sandy beaches and superb luxury accommodation such as Saint John Hotel Villas & Spa or Myconian Ambassador Relais & Chateaux.
