Fuerteventura There are still cheap summer deals to be found on this Canary.

Still looking for your perfect summer break? How about a sun-drenched island not too far from home?

Whether you’re looking for rustic charm in Italy or a classic fly-and-flop in Spain, we've crunched the numbers to reveal nine European hotspots where you can still find good-value summer holiday deals at the last minute.

1. Sicily

Sicily doesn’t have a huge range of all-inclusive hotels, so average prices tend to be lower than bigger holiday hitters like Crete and Tenerife. But if all you need is a comfy bed, a lounger-lined pool and a ready-made breakfast each morning, the Med’s largest island won’t disappoint.

Seven-night packages come in at around £637pp this summer – with even cheaper stays inland in towns like Ragusa, where you’ll find authentic charm and fewer crowds.

Use the savings on a hire car (we found deals from £10.60 a day in September) to explore Sicily’s highlights. Elegant baroque towns, ancient Greek ruins and rumbling Mount Etna await.

2. Sardinia

Cheap package deals made Sardinia an early leader in the summer popularity stakes, with searches up 405% on last year. Average prices are now around £688pp for seven nights but there are still last-minute deals to be found – especially if you’re looking for some late summer sun.

This is another island without a large portfolio of all-inclusives, so your best bets are simple B&Bs if you’re after a bargain.

Want to beach hop? A rental car will put Sardinia’s best beaches in reach but you could also embrace the slow-living vibe of the island and just amble to your nearest stretch of coast each day.

3. Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is shaping up to be one of the better-value Canary Islands this summer. Prices for a seven-night holiday average around £700pp – almost £140pp less than Tenerife.

Look to towns like Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste (close to the airport) for modern stays with breakfast included, or try laidback El Cotillo in the north for boho beach charm.

For those travelling without kids, half board and all-inclusive deals can come in well under the average £700pp price if you travel outside of the school holidays. And with September highs hitting 27C, you won’t miss out on the good weather either.

4. Gran Canaria

With seven-night holidays costing £705pp on average, neighbouring Gran Canaria is the other big Canary Island pick of the summer.

You’ll find good value across the board, so you can take your pick of full-on fun in Playa del Inglés, laidback retreats in Meloneras or both city and sand in the capital of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

If you’re up for exploring, Gran Canaria’s dramatic interior is a hiker’s heaven, and the town of Teror, with its balconied buildings, is probably one of the prettiest places on the island. Public buses will get you to the main attractions on a budget if you don’t want to hire a car.

5. Majorca

Not only is Majorca one of the cheapest island breaks this summer (average prices are £728pp), but it’s also one of the cheapest all-inclusive destinations of the year. In part, it’s the sheer scale of accommodation that keeps prices reasonable.

If you’re deal-hunting, check out the east coast – resorts like Calas de Mallorca and Sa Coma are lovely and low-key, with self-catering apartments and some wallet-friendly all-inclusives to keep your budget in check.

Majorca’s beaches are the main draw of holidays here, meaning you don’t have to splash out on entry to lots of attractions or activities each day.

6. Zante

Got your eye on Greece? With average prices around £739pp, Zante (Zakynthos) is a solid starting point for a last-minute summer deal – especially when you compare it to islands such as Rhodes and Crete (£837pp and £954pp respectively).

While party town Laganas is the best-known name here, there’s a quieter side to Zante in serene resorts such as Alykes and Alykanas, as well as traditional little villages like Exo Chora.

As with many of this summer’s best deals, you’ll want to visit in September when the mercury hits 28C and the sea is a gorgeously warm 25C. Don’t miss an early morning boat trip to Smuggler's Cove to capture the island’s most iconic shot.

7. Kefalonia

Just across the water, Kefalonia is similarly priced at £758pp. And although it may not be the cheapest on this list, its range of simple stays helps keep costs down.

Resort towns including Skala and Lassi are the go-tos for a proper bucket-and-spade holiday, with lounger-lined beaches that offer watersports and plenty of bars and cafés to hop between. The capital, Argostoli, has a lively waterfront, while quieter villages like Assos and Fiskardo deliver Greek-island charm in spades.

Hire a car and you can reach the island’s most photogenic spots: Myrtos Beach, framed by dramatic cliffs, or Melissani Cave, with its sun-drenched underground lake.

8. Lanzarote

Lanzarote may be slightly pricier than its Canarian cousins at around £783pp, but you’ll get plenty of bang for your buck – especially in resorts like Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca, where self-catering apartments help keep costs down.

Its lunar-like landscapes and black-sand beaches set it apart from the usual Med break, and with car hire from around £11 a day in July, you can tick off Timanfaya National Park, the salt flats of Janubio and the island’s dreamy hidden coves all in one trip.

It’s also family-friendly, with waterparks, wildlife centres and sunshine that lingers well into October.

9. Skiathos

Rounding off the list is tiny but mighty Skiathos, where seven-night holidays average £800pp. Despite its small size, this quiet Greek island has more than 60 beaches, pine-covered hills and postcard-pretty harbour towns.

There’s a decent choice of accommodation too, from modest studios near the sea to boutique boltholes tucked into the hills. Look for last-minute deals around Megali Ammos Beach or Troulos for a peaceful base near the coast.

For the best prices, look to early or late summer when the crowds thin but the sea is still inviting.
