Whether you choose to set sail to the Balearics, tour the local beaches or pootle around the city without working up a sweat, there are a few things to keep in mind while you're driving in Dénia.

First, Spain drives on the right so take extra care when approaching junctions, roundabouts and traffic lights.

Speed limits vary: in most cases, drive at 20km/h (approximately 12 mph) in residential areas, 50km/h (approximately 31 mph) in built-up zones, between 90-100km/h (approximately 56-62 mph) in rural areas and 120km/h (approximately 75 mph) on motorways.

There are a few more ways to fall foul of the law. Drink-driving fines can reach up to €1,000; the limit is 0.05%, slightly below the UK's 0.08%. Driving barefoot or in flip-flops is also a no-no, as is travelling with a child in the front seat if they’re under 12.
