Holidays in Calpe

A Calpe holiday comes with fresh sea air, long sandy beaches and a stunning array of superb Spanish restaurants and bars. What’s more, you have all the amenities of Calpe – a modern and well-equipped city – right on your doorstep.

It’s close to the airport and the huge city of Alicante, but far enough away to offer a dose of peace and quiet...

As a holiday destination, the coastal town of Calpe in Spain is particularly popular with families and has everything on offer including resorts, city life, gorgeous sandy beaches and local cuisine.

Calpe is situated within the district of Marina Alta on the Costa Blanca. With Alicante and its gateway airport (ALC) just over 40 miles away, holidays in Calpe are readily accessible – near enough to make the flight transfer relatively easy, yet far enough away to offer a more secluded experience away from the busy vibe of Alicante itself.

All Calpe holidays should include a visit to the Natural Park of Penyal d'lfac, which is a large limestone outcrop linked to the sea by rock debris. It is home to various rare plants and is also an important nesting site for sea birds. Known locally as Calpe Rock, this striking feature climbs some 330 metres into the sky.

It was known to the Phoenicians as the Northern Rock to distinguish it from the Rock of Gibraltar. Take time to watch it change colour as the sun sets on another day at this beautiful spot. There's plenty to do at night in Calpe as well with great bars, clubs and restaurants all along the promenade and beyond. Traditional resort hotels also line the promenade.

Holidays in Calpe are very family friendly. There are beautiful beaches and terrific relaxation areas. If history is your thing, there’s a Gothic Catholic church and tower that are well worth a visit, as are the ruins of Els Banys de la Reina, which translates as the Queen's Baths. Many Iberian, Roman and Arab archaeological sites also exist in the town.

Benidorm is only 30 minutes away, where a must visit is the Terra Mitica theme park with its five themed zones of Iberia, Egypt, Greece, Rome and the Islands. It's as popular with families as with young singles and promises everybody a great day out. Similarly, the Aqualandia water park and Mundo Mar sea life centre provide wonderful entertainment.

Nearby Benidorm is, of course, enormously popular for its nightlife, casinos, bars and restaurants, but it has its other side, too. Head inland to the monastery village of Guadalest or north to the city of Dénia for ferries to Ibiza.
